Intro to IRC
I am writing this guide to get you all set up in our guild IRC Channel (#tfk)
on the Sorcery
IRC Network.
IRC is a very useful resource for us, it allows
us to hold meetings easily, organise raids/defense, and generally get to know
each other better.
Setting up mIRC
The best way to access IRC is using a dedicated client such
as mIRC
(the most popular one)
Install and launch the program, and the following screen will appear:

Remove the check box, in the bottom left of this splash screen, and click anywhere on the popup window to close it.
When you have closed this window, the following should appear:

If it doesn't, click file then options from the menu bar at the top.
Fill in the boxes, you don't have to use your real info for Name/Email but make sure you use a recognisable nickname, preferably your ig character name.
The next step is to select the Sorcery IRC Server from the drop down list:

The last window to configure is options, below server:

Click the OK button and then click the connect icon in the top left:

mIRC will connect you to the Sorcery IRC Network,
you will see the MoTD (Message of The Day) come up, this contains info about
the number of people connected, the number of channels etc.
The following window should popup:

Click Add and enter the following, make sure you tick 'Auto-join channel on connect'

Click OK, then you will be back to the channels folder, uncheck 'Pop up folder on connect'
at the bottom of this screen, highlight the channel #tfk and click 'Join'
You are now in the #tfk IRC Channel, Congratulations :)
Advanced Setup on the Sorcery Network
It is a good idea to register your nickname with Nickserv, this will allow you to
be recognised by the channel, which will then give you access to the channel
commands. It also stops other people using your nickname on the network.
Its a good idea to read the Sorcery guide on this, which can be found here.
The 1st thing to do is to register your nick, you do this by typing this command:
/nickserv
REGISTER password email
replace password
with the password of your choice and your email so you can retrieve a lost pw, remember not to use your nick as the password,
make it secure :P
you will
then get a message like this:
Nickname
Jimmy registered under your account: jimmy@*.yourisp.com
Your password is FiDo1165 - remember this for later use.
(Note: Jimmy's password isn't really FiDo1165 this is just
an example.)
Write your
password down.
To identify
yourself to Nickserv you must type:
/nickserv
identify YourPassword
You will
need to do this each time you join mIRC, but there is an easy way to automate
it. Go to File, then Options open the IRC options, and
click Perform. The following box will appear:

Tick the
box at the top, and then enter the commands you want to perform when you connect
to IRC. The first command I entered identifies me to Nickserv (make
sure you change it to your password), and the second joins me to the #DNN
channel (Darktide News Network).
