A Brief History of The Fremen Knights
- written by Officer Miles Trophar.
CODE OF ASHERON:
The Code of Asheron, from the earliest days of the Fremen Knights, has guided the actions of the allegiance. Believed by most Knights to have been delivered by Asheron Realaidain, the Code's origins are still quite mysterious. Conflicting reports give two possible methods in which the Code came to Fremen Knights founder Kile Thomsun.
The first theory is that Asheron came to Kile Thomsun in the form of a vision, much in the manner it was said he called Thomsun to Dereth...
"I was in a large narrow hall. The sides of the hall were filled with armored warriors, both men and women, but try as I might, I could not make out their individual features. In the distance I could see a throne with a massive warrior standing before it. I felt myself starting forward, walking towards the warrior. But as I approached the figure, it changed. Now it was a Wizard with a long flowing beard and eyes that seemed to pierce my very soul; next, a valiant bowman, his powerful long bow cradled in his arms; then, a fierce Amazon whose beauty made my heart pound even in my dream state. Finally, it became him. Asheron. Do not ask me how I knew. I just knew. Mighty Asheron, Sad Asheron, Asheron the All Powerful, Asheron the Powerless, all these and so much more.
"I forced myself to look him in the eye. Not smart. I felt as if I was looking directly into the heart of an infinite universe. I had to quickly pull my eyes away before they blinded by its infinite glory. Not smart at all.
"Asheron spoke.
I'm not going to tell you everything he told me. Much of it was for my ears only. Those of us that have been directly called by Asheron have all shared this type of experience, but the details of the actual experience are unique to each of us. I am also not going to say that everything was settled in this meeting and I was reconciled to serve Asheron. What I will say is that here is where I received my calling, still somewhat shapeless, but real nonetheless. Here, also, is where Asheron gave me his code."
-Kile Thomsun
The second theory is somewhat simpler, albeit less inspiring...
"Kile hit his head on a tree."
-Stitch
It is entirely possible that both are correct and that the tree was a catalyst to the vision. When one considers the detail of the Code, it discounts the idea that it was a common hallucination. Since its arrival, the code in which the Fremen Knights live their lives has been amended only rarely in the case of changing times and for clarification.
EARLY UZIZ:
In the A'mun, the Gharu'ndim people whispered of an isolated town on the edge of the desert. It could not easily be reached. The hellions of Dereth, who needlessly murdered their own kind all over the island, only occassionally made the journey. Why seek a small town in the distance when there was fresh blood in Holtburg and Rithwic? The decent people of Dereth learned this and set out to make it a town of safety and peace. It was Uziz.
Kile Thomsun, founder of The Fremen Knights, learned of it in its earlist days. Thomsun would roam the desert, meeting new arrivals to Dereth. In Samsur, he found the man who would be Second Knight of the allegiance one day, Stitch.
"He told me about Uziz, and we both agreed to travel there. Kile was already based there."
-Stitch
While reluctant at first, Thomsun finally agreed to take vassals and to lead an allegiance that would become The Fremen Knights. Early followers included Stich, Poltaire al-Arious, Xenn, Raina al-Bohar, Silva, Faveo, Herbal, Angry Ghandi, and a few more as the weeks went on. However, the allegiance was kept small, as was common at the time.
The residents of Uziz had found a safe haven away from many of the mindless raiders and thugs. In an effort to keep their town safe from aggressors and to better communicate amoung the many new arrivals, the leaders of several allegiances formed an arrangement to ally their peoples: The Thasali Alliance.
Named after a dungeon a short jog outside Uziz territory, The Thasali Alliance was one of the first attempts at allying different allegiances in Dereth. Many would come later. The Iron Triangle Alliance, The Rhino Party, and others. Yet, this was an early endeavor. New ground was broken. Lord Warrior, Metellus Cimber, Lava, Thorin Oakenshield, Kile Thomsun, and the future Queen of Uziz formed a pact to defend their home and communicate amoung the allegiances.
Early enemies of Uziz included Shin Shiro, Patryn, and after some time, Lava and Lord Warrior...
"Lord Warrior was one of the original Uziz monarchs. A militaristic leader, many were drawn to his allegience. Unfortunately, a string of events with Lava guild members brought out a darkness within him that he never recovered from. It turns out he was always on the precipice of madness."
-The Good Nun
THE GREAT BETRAYL:
Peace had been realized in Uziz. Many allegiances began to make it their home. With the newly-discovered Direlands town of Ayan Baqur growing in popularity, many were able to visit Uziz through the portal which connected them. Yet, as the small desert town's population grew, so did its problems. While protected by those of The Thasali Alliance and later The Iron Triangle Alliance, which guarded Ayan Baqur, Baishi, and Uziz, the desert faced its greatest threat to date: The Great Betrayal.
"The Great Betrayal was a vicious and failed attempt at social engineering. Their goal was to 'toughen up' the people they perceived as 'soft'. The result was disaster and a near complete abandonment of Uziz. Indeed it was the end of the Golden Age of Uziz."
-The Good Nun
Led in part by a turncoat named Lowjack, the betrayers grew uneasy with the peace in Uziz. It is said that some resented the leading allegiances and their rules, causing the riots and raids that led to the Betrayal. Some hoped to gain that very political power. Others saw it as an opportunity for change. Many simply followed because of personal friendships. The exact reasons may be lost to time. Some Uziz citizens, rather than take a side in the civil war, left town to avoid battling friends and former allies.
The delicate and fragile peace in Uziz was shattered. The traitors recruited well-known and powerful soldiers from outside Uziz. Names such as Graveborn and Darkstar joined the conflict, perhaps only to take part in the great war rather than the political motivations of the others. Followers of nearly every defending allegiance lost members to the betrayers. Even The Fremen Knights...
"Plenty did, but the people that stayed are what forms the core today. Noone that sticks out, or is with us today."
-Stitch
The battles raged and emcompassed not only Uziz but also Baishi and Ayan Baqur. Friends and family waged war on each other. When the dust settled, nobody truly won. The betrayers went on their way, and Uziz was largely abandoned save for many loyal Fremen Knights and a fraction of the original defenders.
THE RETURN:
In the aftermath of The Great Betrayl, Ayan Baqur fell into anarchy as Blood sieged the town and claimed it for its own. Uziz and Baishi, its sister towns, felt the effects of the war. Uziz buckled under the pressure of the recent Betrayl and now this new catastrophe. The remaining citizens and defenders could not by themselves keep the waning popultion from seeking new territory and new lives. Uziz was fading.
The Fremen Knights regrouped in the Plateau Village. Its seclusion much like Uziz in the early days, the Plateau was a safe haven in the ever-changing island of Dereth. The Knights made friends with an allegiance called the Toes and helped keep the peace in this new town. Not long after, Kile Thomsun, unable to lead the allegiance due to personal reasons, stepped down and offered the First Knight position to long-time follower Faveo.
"No longer did we stay in Uziz. We expanded outside and took the fight to the outlaws."
-Faveo
While reorganized elsewhere, the hearts of the Fremen were still very much in the desert...
"Faveo had taken over leadership by that time and we began our gorilla tactics running up to Ayan Baqur and hit and running it, using the bay southwest of the Uziz port as our staging area."
-Kokanee
As time went on, the Arcanum constructed housing for the people of Dereth. In searching for a mansion, The Fremen Knights decided to make their full return to Uziz and committed themselves even more to its protection. While the mansion is the allegiance's headquarters, Uziz is its home. In this new stage of the growing allegiance, the torch was passed to Kokanee to lead the Fremen as new First Knight.
"Wasn't very long that Faveo contacted me about taking over leadership officially and I accepted."
-Kokanee
NUN DYNASTY:
From the ashes of The Great Betrayal, The Good Nun emerged as the Queen of Uziz. An early resident of the proud town, the Queen came into power to rebuild Uziz from the fall from the Golden Age. To reconstruct a shattered society.
"When the large monarchies left there was a band of us, mostly untagged, left to caretake in Uziz. Through what was much like a series of gladitorial combat, I was elevated into the position of Queen of Uziz. It was in respect of my dedication to the town and it's inhabitants combined with the brute strength and finesse I displayed in combat against those who would be warlords over the town."
-The Good Nun
The Nun Dynasty allegiance, made up of only a handful of seasoned veterans and new recruits, kept the peace in Uziz during its darkest days. Ayan Baqur, the crowded Direlands town which was connected to Uziz by portal, was in great dispute amoung the many allegiances who would have it for themselves. The war, combined with the earlier catastrophe, forced the vast majority of Uziz citizens to regroup elsewhere. With the Queen's numbers dwindling, a scarce few remained to watch over town and protect its fading population.
The Queen sought help from time to time. Temporarilly swearing into Maud'dib's army to strengthen support for the battles in Ayan Baqur and Uziz. Politics clashed shortly after, and the Queen was alone again. Alliances with several allegiances in Khayyaban were attempted but failed in the end. Uziz freedom was largely a fight for The Nun Dynasty alone...
...until one day The Fremen Knights sought to reclaim Uziz from the Bloods and endless barrage of plunderers. The Queen swore into their allegiance, bringing the last remaining of her vassals with her. The Fremen Knights purged the town of its evils as they do to this day.
SOLDIERS OF LIGHT:
A strong family of priests that serve Tempus, the God of War, and are built on a strong foundation of loyalty and friendship. They inhabit many worlds, spreading the word of Tempus to all and striking fear into the hearts of those who cherish evil. The Soldiers of Light have been through many changes, which has only strenghtened their resolve to strive towards peace through aggression, a motto they hold close to their hearts.
The Soldiers of Light are always proven to be a formidable opponent to those who sought to extinguish the flame of light, causing them to have many enemies. However, this has also brought the attention of strong allies over the years, and will do so for many more.
Led by Solarch Arcar, the Soldiers of Light fought the raiders and criminals of the Northern town of Stonehold. In the days when holding and protecting a town held the highest importance, Stonehold was one of the few shining lights in a chaotic world of darkness. The Soldiers, amoung others, fought to preserve the peace and banish all who threatened it, employing a philosophy of "peace through aggression."
With The Fremen Knights and various other allegiances, the Soldiers of Light joined the Rhino Party Alliance. A band of different armies striving towards similar ends. However, with differing voices and wide opinions on how to accomplish their goals, both the Knights and Soldiers decided to leave the Rhinos to focus on their own methods rather than relying on the others.
In an effort to form a stronger bond, the Soldiers of Light and The Fremen Knights joined under the Fremen banner. Unfortunately, the merger was not fated to last long. Tensions arose as Soldiers realized they may be losing their identity. So, the Soldiers of Light set out on their own. Not long after, membership dwindled, and the Soldiers attempted to buy a mansion to solidify their diminishing presense in Dereth...
"After aquiring almost everything we needed, people were really losing interest, so it was decided that SOL would disband in the world of Dereth. So we disbanded before recieving a mansion."
-Thundergod
In the aftermath, many Soldiers join The Fremen Knights to reunite with old friends, where some still live to this day.
THE VIRUS CLAN:
In the decade following humanity's liberation from the Olthoi, small clans of noble warriors banded together to keep the evils at bay. One such allegiance, The Virus Clan, was formed in the Aluvian town of Glenden Wood by a man named Lava. His was a small but proud group, battling those who would seek to bring destruction to Dereth. Lava eventually joined the Uziz-based Thasali Alliance.
One day, it is said that Lava began speaking to Shadows. Lore is vague as to the origins of these creatures, but some say many followed Bael'Zharon and his Master. Lava changed. Many believe he was infected with something that altered his perceptions while others insist someone in his allegiance, Halloween, was largely responsible. A wise scholar named Cardinal Siddartha claimed to be able to cure Lava of the Shadow Virus with a combination of Mt. Lethe's water and an item inscribed by Lava himself, but it was never administered.
Whatever the reason, Lava began to wage war on all of Dereth. The exception being the Shadows. To him, they were innocent, and keeping humans weak meant better chance of survival for his new people. These actions split the Clan. Christmas, sister of Halloween, left the allegiance. Lava's numbers grew to approximately two hundred followers at the height of the Virus Clan.
One night, on Halloween's namesake, she raided Shoushi with the rest of the Clan, daring all of Dereth to kill her. A pyreal nugget to whoever was able to bring her down. The Virus Clan battled so often that Lava grew weary and decided to leave Dereth. With the blessing of a cleric named Min, Halloween and Lava were married atop Mt. Zabool. At the conclusion, Lava leapt over the edge and disappeared into history.
KEE TANA:
I first met the members of The Fremen Knights when I was in Grix, and they came to live at the Nexus lifestone with Grix. Most of us hung out and muled at the tower there, until the action became a bit too hot and heavy and our mules were being killed. Several of us moved to mule hill, overlooking the sea, and The Fremen Knights members soon followed. It was there on mule hill that I really got to observe The Fremen Knights and its individual members. I was impressed. Enough so, that I was disconcerted to discover that The Fremen Knights had found a new home, and started moving to the current lifestone. I had become unhappy with the behavior of some of the members of Grix, but I have a fairly strong sense of loyalty and would not normally have left. But when I expressed my unhappiness about their leaving to Harmony and Stitch and was invited to join them, I think I jumped at the chance Eventually Dan Tana and I broke from Grix, and joined The Fremen Knights at the 'new' lifestone.
We barely had time to get used to the new spawns, get our mules moved from Cragstone to Glendon Wood, and be comfortable about finding a reasonably safe trip to the merchants and the Glenden Wood portal, when Fists of Vengeance decided this was a tasty lifestone they wanted for themselves. It was a heavy war for us. I think we had only about thirty to thirty-five members at the time, and this was pre-housing and pre-mansion, so there was no place safe to flee to. This was our home, and we fought like demons.
It wasn't a very long war, perhaps a week. Primarily because Fists of Vengeance (as he admitted later to Faveo) discovered the battle proved too difficult for them.

LEGEND:
I began my existance in this realm in the town of Shoushi and eventually made Hebian-To my home. New to this existence I quickly saw a difference among the others sent to this world. All were warriors, but some lacked an honor and dignity, while others possessed a caring, compassion and pride that I had not witnessed prior. I quickly learned that the easy path was to fight without honor, but was unable to make myself battle in that way. Rather than take the easy road I decided early on that I would take the harder, yet more rewarding road.
While fighting the evil members of the Dark Master clan my bravery in battle was finally rewarded when I pledged to my first patron. D O of the Destructor guild. Destructor called Nedysia Castle his home so after a very long journey I arrived there to help defend my new home. There I befriended many such as Jida, Disintegrator, Patriot and Marshal. Eventually Disintegrator broke and went into GEN dragging D O and myself unwittingly with him. Upon finding out the true nature of the GEN monarchy I immediately broke and found myself alone roaming around the northern mountains.
It was here I met up with a vagabond. Nearly naked and unable to venture more than one click from his lifestone before dying I met a friend that has stayed true to this day... Mr Road Runner. Wild Man and I started hunting with this fellow and found him to share our values. It was Mr Road Runner who suggested that we travel to Stonehold and pledge into the guild Reckless. It was here that I met my best patroness... Honey Comb and her patron General Tsao. Together we defended Stonehold continuously, raids were frequent and well orchestrated, but we withstood them as best we could. Defending both Nedysia and Stonehold are and will probably always be the highlight of my existence here.
Eventually Reckless merged into TAO and we were finally asked to leave our home of Stonehold to help defend Dry Reach against Alberon Mindeater. While the war was just, both clans had common interests and my heart was not in the battles. It was then that TAO decided to try to take the South Dires Lifestone. I undertook the arduous run and reached the lifestone. Here I was repeatedly mutilated until a retreat was finally sounded. Battered and bruised and longing for our old home of Stonehold we took our leave of TAO. Leaving Reckless still with TAO was one of the hardest choices we had made.
From there General Tsao then took on a new, more powerful role as War Angel. Around this vastly more powerful character we built our own monarchy. We befriended others who also called Stonehold home, Isbreath, Isgod and Sam Powers. We brought our two alliances together with the intention of building a powerful monarchy with Stonehold as our home.
Ah... best intentions...
We were beset with bickering, and I must admit that I did my share. It seemed that though we all had the same goals, some were willing to put up with some clan members that were insufferable... Cramos. Not just Cramo, but Cramo is the name I now use for all the people that want to be anti, but just can't seem to get the concept down one hundred percent. Unhappy that such people would be allowed to remain in the guild I decided to leave. The story is a bit longer than that, but the theme is the same.
Remembering my visit to a distant lifestone out in the dires with Jida and the Dawkinsons that behaved with such honor and ferocity I decided to seek out this clan. I made my way to Uziz and started hanging around the town to see if these Knights really behaved with the honor they claimed. I've not been disappointed. It seems that here my goals are the same while my values are and always have been in place. I fight with honor, knowing all the while that my clanmates are doing the same. After all this time, dying means little now, as long as I die while putting up a good fight. From what I can tell of the Knights old rosters, only Thorin Oakenshield has been in this realm longer than I of all the Knights that still exist. I still keep both Nedysia and Stonehold as ties as I will still stand guard over my old homes although the raids are fewer now. The thought of others desecrating my old homes is not appealing and I still fight them when these old bones find themselves aching for a fight.
